In praise of corn dogs

I absolutely love them. The food court at the mall in Palm Desert has a little corn dog stand that I have real trouble passing over for something healthier (like Chinese Orange Chicken, or Mrs. Fields Cookies! ).

Incidentally, a place we go in the desert makes a Shrimp Corn Dog appetizer that is out of this world. Jumbo shrimp skewered all the way through the long way, dipped and fried. I haven't had them in awhile but I think they served it with a mustard/mayonaise dipping sauce. Incredible.

One day not long ago, STARVED, and possessing about $1.50 cash, I stopped for gas and decided on a corn dog from the mini-mart. I probably haven't had such a thing in 20 years, though I remember them fondly. Well, this one had a chicken hot dog in it (too soft and mealy), the dough was overly sweet, and it was baked, not fried. EGADS. You probably don't need to be told this, but never fall for a mini-mart corn dog. These are not corn dogs.

I love corndogs, gotta mix ketchup and mustard together for dipping. That reminds me, I haven't been to a county fair in AGES!
