Cast Iron Skewers--the results show!

by Jenise » Thu Jun 12, 2008 12:14 pm

Anxious to test-drive our new grilling toys, last night we had chicken kabobs, conventionally comprised of marinated chicken breast, green and red peppers, onion and cherry tomatoes.

The skewers worked just as well as we hoped they would. The chicken was perfectly and evenly cooked all the way to center yet tender, and food didn't spin even though the skewers were oiled (as I hadn't seasoned them yet). As for Stu's concern that they'd be too hot to handle, unloading the first skewer required holding the end with a dinner napkin (always cotton, not paper, at our house) because of the heat, but the second had cooled to an easily handleable warm by the time we got to it. And yes, three was too large a portion (and will be lunch later), but I went ahead and used up the kabob material which was enough for six.

Carrie and Jeff, if you find these in your part of woods, don't hesitate. They're the perfect skewer.

That is gorgeous, Jenise!

Now I am wondering if there is a TJ Maxx near me. I'll have to find out!

Edit: There is one about 5 miles from me in Santa Fe! It's a part of town I don't often go to, but I will now. :)

There's one in Tulsa just a few miles from home. We're gonna find it tomorrow, as soon as Gail gets her nails pampered.

Jenise,
Are those by Charcoal Companion? I wonder if they are the same thing that World Market carries?

Visited the nearest TJ Maxx yesterday, and not a skewer to be found.
