Weingut Hiedler 1995 Langenloiser Weingärten Cuvée Kamptal (Austria) Grüner Veltliner ($10.99)
The more Austrian wines I taste, the happier I am that these wines are finally starting to trickle back into the U.S. after a long dry spell. This is one fine white! Clear straw color. Lovely melon and wildflower scents. Ripe, fresh fruit, consistent with the nose, full-bodied and rich, well structured with tart acidity; flavors remain consistent with the addition of a pleasant peach-pit bitterness in a very long finish. Excellent wine, a definite entry in the ABC (Anything But Chardonnay) sweepstakes. Importer: Milton S. Kronheim & Co., Inc., Washington, D.C.; a Terry Theise Estate Selection. (Oct. 7, 1997)

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
