Marc Bredif Marc Brédif 1996 Vouvray ($12.99)
Clear straw color. Musky melon and pleasant earthy aromas, characteristic Vouvray. Full, fruity and bright, seductive honeydew and tangerine flavors. Dry and tart in a long finish. U.S. importer: Maisons Marques & Domaines, Oakland, Calif. (Sept. 20, 1998)

FOOD MATCH: A good match with duck-fennel sausage and skillet-fried potatoes.

Regis Minet Régis Minet 1996 Pouilly Fumé Vieilles Vignes ($12.99)
Clear straw color. Intense grapefruit scent with an undertone of Sauvignon Blanc "grass." Tart and bright citric flavor, tangy grapefruit, so acidic that it's almost sour when tasted alone, but it comes into its own as an exceptional food wine. Clean and tart in a long finish. U.S. importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, Calif. (Sept. 17, 1998)

FOOD MATCH: Worked well with a Northern Italian chicken dish braised with lemon and thyme, but probably would be even better with white fish.

Previous day's wine note

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
