El Chapparal Bodegas Nekeas 1997 Vega Sindoa "El Chaparral" Navarra (Spain) Old Vines Grenache ($8.99)
Clear, dark ruby. Fragrant black pepper and ripe berry fruit dance in the aroma; the flavor is full, juicy and tart, black fruit and spicy pepper. Quite a pleasant quaff and a good food wine; the single-digit price qualifies it as a good buy for short-term consumption. U.S. importer: Cutting Edge Selections Inc., Cincinnati. (Aug. 17, 1998)

FOOD MATCH: Excellent partner with grilled chicken.

Previous day's wine note

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
