Catena 1993 Agrelo Vineyard Mendoza (Argentina) Cabernet Sauvignon ($11.49)
Very dark garnet color. Spicebox oak aromas, with black fruit punching through, and subtle herbaceous and chocolate scents becoming more obvious with time in the glass. Full fruit flavor, ripe, tannic and tart. Wood is certainly present, but so is fruit, and it all ends up in good balance, surprisingly youthful for a four-year-old wine. Excellent value now, and likely to improve over time. Importer: Billington Distributors Inc., Springfield, Va. (Aug. 16, 1997)

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
