Asij Ceretto 1991 Barbaresco Asij ($14.95)
Adorned with a label so modern that it's difficult to make out the flowing script, this fine red wine turned up on sale perhaps because of its age, but it's nowhere near mature. Dark ruby in color with an amber edge, it shows black fruit and floral aromas framed by the "tar" and "smoke" characteristic of Nebbiolo. Full and rich, flavors follow the nose, still showing soft tannins and plenty of warm, plummy fruit with appropriate acidic balance. U.S. importer: Palace Brands Co., Hartford, Ct. (July 30, 1999)

FOOD MATCH: Fine with grilled Cornish hens.

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
