Seppelt Seppelt 1993 Harpers Range South Eastern Australia Sparkling Shiraz ($15.99)
Inky dark ruby in color with a frothy pink mousse. The bubbles dissipate rather quickly, leaving only a slight, pleasant prickly petillance on the tongue. Grapey, peppery fruit aromas and ripe, juicy fruit flavors with fragrant black pepper give this wine serious credentials as a tasty, fruity Shiraz that goes beyond the oddity of a red bubbly. U.S. importer: Astra Wine Imports, Roswell, Ga. (July 16, 1999)

FOOD MATCH: A very fine match indeed with a char-grilled chicken with a Southwestern ancho-chipotle slather. (Recipe and photo available in the Food Lovers' Discussion Group Recipe Archive.)

Previous day's wine note

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
