Gallo Sonoma 1994 Barrelli Creek Vineyard Alexander Valley Valdiguié ($11.99)
I tasted this one a while back at lunch with a winery representative, found it delightful, but decided to check it out again with a bottle purchased locally and tasted under somewhat more analytical surroundings at home. I still really like it ...
Indent Dark reddish-purple. Ripe red-fruit and spicy oak aromas. Full and tart on the palate, juicy, fresh fruit, berries and apple-skin. Clean and delicious tart-apple flavor in a long finish. ("Valdiguiél" is the old French term for the grape marketed in the U.S. as "Napa Gamay," in contrast with "Gamay Beaujolais," which is actually an inferior Pinot Noir clone.) (June 22, 1997)

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
