Brancott Brancott Vineyards 1997 Marlborough (New Zealand) Reserve Sauvignon Blanc ($16.99)
Pale greenish-gold, with delicious green-chile aromas in the classic Marlborough style, as green and aromatic as sniffing a bin of fresh chiles verdes. Full and crisp on the palate, green chiles (without the heat, of course) balanced by tart citrus acidity. Balanced and pleasing, an excellent wine. U.S. importer: Seagram Chateau & Estate Wines Co., NYC. (June 10, 1999)

FOOD MATCH: Chosen specifically to accompany the first pesto of the season; the "green" herbaceous flavors did the trick.

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
