Bonny Doon 1996 Ca' del Solo Monterey (California) Malvasia Bianca ($9.49)
Clear pale gold. Citric aromas and a startling floral intensity -- when we last opened this wine (the '94 vintage) on a summer evening, we thought the datura outside our dining-room window had burst into bloom. Fresh, crisp and very dry, full citric flavor, clean and lasting. Another winner for the ABC ("Anything But Chardonnay" club. (Jan. 24, 1998)

FOOD MATCH: Went well enough with pan-grilled swordfish, although the extreme floral quality of this wine makes it an iffy match with any food; it might better serve as an aperitif.

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
