Babcock Vineyards 1997 Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir ($15.95)
Very dark ruby, with cherry-cola and spice aromas, appetizing and typically Californian rendition of Pinot Noir. Fresh and full, a burst of fresh fruit flavors consistent with the nose; soft and ripe, a bit of a "fruit bomb," but there's plenty of acidity for balance. (Jan. 11, 2000)
FOOD MATCH: Works well with a dish designed to go with California Pinot: Mashed potatoes with wild mushrooms and Italian sausage.
