Wine Advisor Express:
Three quick notes

In a slight change of pace today, we offer you three quick items rather than the usual single article: A link to a fun online wine game ... a way you can help the surviving families of World Trade Center victims while enjoying an evening out ... and a brief word from one of our sponsors.

A WINE GAME: A lot of you told me that you enjoyed our July 27 link to the Berry Bros. & Rudd Wine Knowledge Quiz. Now the London wine shop has a new online wine game to test your wine-trivia knowledge. If you have a reasonably fast Internet connection and your browser is equipped with the "Flash" plug-in, try your hand at the Berry Bros. & Rudd Wine Binning Game, http://www.bbr.com/GB/wine-knowledge/game.lml.

ANOTHER WAY TO HELP: On Thursday, Oct. 11, more than 1,500 restaurants and food establishments throughout the world will donate at least 10 percent of their evening’s sales to the Windows of Hope Family Relief Fund. This fund provides immediate emergency aid as well as future scholarships and funds for all families in the food-service profession whose loved ones perished in the World Trade Center disaster. You can help by dining out at any of the participating restaurants in your area. Make your reservations now as this will be a huge effort and seats are being reserved quickly.

For a frequently updated list of participating restaurants, please see http://windowsofhope.org/pages/restaurants.html. Restaurateurs and food-service professionals who would like to participate should click to http://windowsofhope.org/pages/call.html.

CALIFORNIA WINE CLUB EXTENDS SALE, ADDS BENEFIT: Twice a year, The California Wine Club offers a highly anticipated Wine Sale to its 10,000 customers across the country. Sept. 30 would have been the last day of the last wine sale this year.

We say, "would have," because for this Wine Sale, The California Wine Club is doing something different for a crisis that they hope will never be repeated: The Wine Sale will be extended until Oct. 12, and $5 to $10 from every case sold will go directly to the American Red Cross. The California Wine Club intends to raise and donate between $5,000 and $10,000 by Oct. 12.

If you would like to place an order, and live in a place where the Club can legally ship wine, call The California Wine Club at (800) 777-4443. Or visit the Club's website, http://www.cawineclub.com, and click on the "Wine Sale" link.
