Tasting Note: Cloudy Bay 2000 Sauvignon Blanc The 2000 vintage, which I had the good fortune to try at the winery last November, has finally reached local shops in most parts of the world.
FOOD MATCH: Perfect with a vegetarian entree designed to match its herbaceous nature: Fresh asparagus spears and a light puree of asparagus, green peppers and onions over gorgonzola polenta. MORE ABOUT CLOUDY BAY: For a more detailed article about Cloudy Bay and its wines, see New Zealand correspondent Sue Courtney's feature on Wine Lovers' Page, "Cloudy Bay - A legend of our times," at http://www.wineloverspage.com/nz/cloudybay.shtml. WHERE TO FIND IT: Popularity has made Cloudy Bay a sought-after item that sells out quickly around the world. If you have a good relationship with a local fine-wine shop, you might ask if there's a waiting list. Or, if you live in a state or country that doesn't criminalize Internet or mail-order wine buying, try seeking an online vendor through the excellent Wine Searcher database, http://www.wine-searcher.com. If you can't find it, don't be reluctant to try the Sauvignon Blancs from Cloudy Bay's Marlborough neighbors, including such excellent wines as Grove Mill, Seresin, Palliser, Nautilus, Villa Maria, Giesen, Morton Estates and many more. These wines are generally of similar character and quality, and lacking the market pressure that inflates Cloudy Bay's prices, may offer much better value.
