Today's Wine Tasting Note

Continuing my recent inquiries into Dolcetto, one of my favorite everyday reds:

Seghesio 1996 "Vigneto della Chiesa" Dolcetto d'Alba ($11.99)
Dark ruby color. Cherry-berry fruit and mixed-spice aromas, nutmeg and cloves. Bright, juicy fruit flavor, ripe and tart, the kind of wine you can either gulp or contemplate. U.S. Importer: Vintner Select, Cincinnati; a Marc de Grazia Selection. (Dec. 29, 1997)

FOOD MATCH: I threw together a quick frittata with ham and potatoes last night, a potentially difficult wine match since both eggs and ham can be troublesome. However, the combination of high fruit with high acid in this quaffable red seemed to solve the problem with high style. A fine match!
