Rampolla Castello dei Rampolla 1996 Chianti Classico ($15.99)
Clear garnet. Ripe, spicy black-cherry on the nose and palate; full and tart flavor with surprisingly firm tannins lurking behind the fruit. Clean and consistent in a long finish. Delightfully fruity and structured, a delicious wine that almost demands a second glass. U.S. importer: VIAS Imports Ltd., NYC. (Dec. 20, 1998)

FOOD MATCH: Fine with an Italian classic, sausage lasagne.

Previous day's wine note

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
