Château Thivin 1997 Côte de Brouilly ($16)
Clear, dark ruby, this Grand Cru Beaujolais offers earthy rose-petal and clove and red-fruit aromas on the nose and palate, strikingly reminiscent of an old-fashioned rose potpourri. Clean and tart, its fresh and crisp fruit and spice flavors make this an exceptional food wine. U.S. importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, Calif. (Dec. 16, 1999)
FOOD MATCH: Surprisingly good with a rather fiery lamb curry with peas; the fruity and spicy flavors marry well with the curry's hot and exotic spice.

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores. |
