Altesino 1998 Rosso di Altesino Toscana ($9.99)
AltesinoDark garnet. A wild blend of rustic aromas - barnyard and "burnt match" and plummy black fruit. More fruit-focused in flavor, black plums and earthy notes, laced up with lemony acidity. Definitely a country-Italian style; fanatics of ultra-clean "New World" wines would probably push it away, but serve it up with a hearty Italian dinner and it comes into perspective. FOOD MATCH: Like most tart and fruity Tuscan reds, it made a fine match with a cheesy, tomato-sauced pasta dish of baked ziti; it would also complement just about any red meat or roast poultry.
