Santorini wine bottles

Santorini, one of the most beautiful of all the Greek islands in the Aegean, makes a variety of good country wines that match well with the local produce. This one's made from the aromatic Assyrtiko grape, known for producing high-acid and even ageworthy whites.

Boutari 1995 Santorini (Greece) White Wine ($13.99)
Very pale straw color. Potent spearmint aroma with citric undertones. Full and very tart flavor, simple but clean, flavors consistent in a long finish. Pleasant wine, but pushing it in the value department. Importer: Paterno Imports, Chicago. (Nov. 28, 1997)

FOOD MATCH: This dry, aromatic white went nicely with leftover Thanksgiving turkey (in a simple casserole with shell pasta, mushrooms and Parmigiano), but I think it would be an even better match with fish.
