Bouchard Pere & Fils 1998 Beaujolais Nouveau ($9.49) OK, it probably wasn't smart, but since it's here, I couldn't resist a little taste of the Nouveau Beaujolais. Ptui! I picked Bouchard out of a conscious effort to avoid the ubiquitous Duboeuf, but this one's not much of a sipper even by the limited standard of Nouveau in general. Bright cherry color, with aromas of strawberries, burnt sugar and a whiff of vinegar. Thin and sour, tart and one-dimensional sour-cherry fruit. Forgettable at best.
