Today's Wine Tasting Note

This is my second wine recently from I Campetti, a winery in southwestern Tuscany near Grosetto, where Tuscany meets the sea. This one's rated a "table wine" because the laws regulating the wines of the region don't admit Viognier, a classy grape that probably explains its somewhat inflated price.

I Campetti Almabruna Vino da Tavola della Maremma Toscana ($14.99)
Clear bright gold. Heady floral scent with figs and dates, good Viognier framed by aromatic oak; rich and full flavor, white fruit on a sturdy acidic structure. Fig and date flavors and an edge of vanilla persist in a long finish. Pleasant wine, but would represent better value for a few dollars less.
