Carchelo 1995 Jumilla (Spain) Monastrell ($6.99)
Dark ruby. Fresh black-cherry fruit with pleasant leather and "forest-floor" nuances. Tart cherries and earth on the palate, consistent with the nose; fruit and acid in balance. Very appealing budget-level wine. U.S. importer: Classical Wines From Spain, Seattle. (Nov. 15, 1999)
FOOD MATCH: Just right with a not-too-spicy tortilla soup.

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores. |
