Today's Wine Tasting Note

I had heard that this wine was a substantial notch up in quality from the regular Lapostolle Merlot, which sells for several dollars less, so I was pleased to see it belatedly turn up in our area recently. It is an impressive wine, too, and if it's more of a "fruit bomb" than a wine of real finesse, why, so much the better to score Parker Points.

Casa Lapostolle 1995 "Cuvée Alexandre" Rapel Valley (Chile) Merlot ($13.99)
Inky dark garnet, almost black. Delicious chocolate-covered-cherries in the aroma, lush fruit and spicy oak. Very full and ripe, a bowl of black-cherry fruit on the palate with chocolate and vanilla notes over plenty of lemony acidity. Big and bright and full, it's accessible and easy to quaff.
