Today's Wine Tasting Note

After long membership in the ABC (Anything But Chardonnay) club, I've been trying to re-expand my horizons lately by making judicious forays into the Land of Chard. Last night's entry:

Verget 1996 Chablis Premier Cru Vaillons ($22.99)
Clear brass color. Apples and floral aromas, very pleasant and appealing. Crisp and tart flavor, sour apples and a markedly high level of steely acidity. Impressive, technically correct, but seems a little rough around the edges; could probably use a little cellar time. Importer: Vintner Select, Cincinnati. (Oct. 26, 1997)

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
