Taurino 1990 Notarpanaro Rosso del Salentino ($9.99)
Dark ruby color. Black fruit, caramel and something surprisingly like black licorice combine in a heady aroma that demands attention. Ripe and juicy "fruit-bomb" flavors, startlingly fresh in a seven-year-old wine, are well balanced with lemon-squirt acidity. A real mouth full of red, went very well with a roast chicken with a ration of pesto stuffed under the breast skin. Importer: Winebow Inc., NYC. (Oct. 17, 1997)
