Chateau des Tours 1995 Brouilly ($12.99)
Very dark garnet. Delicious blueberry and strawberry scents, very youthful for a three-year-old Beaujolais, even a "grand cru" like Brouilly. Full, juicy fruit and bright acidity, consistent with the nose. Clean and fresh in a long finish. (Sept. 27, 1998)
FOOD MATCH: Its fresh fruitiness makes it a happy match with stir-fry lamb and broccoli in black-bean sauce.
Mas de Gourgonnier 1996 Les Baux de Provence ($9.99)
Very dark ruby. Black fruit, fragrant pepper and distant herbal aroma notes. Full, peppery fruit flavor, dry and tart; clean and fresh, with good body and structure. (Sept. 28, 1998)
FOOD MATCH: Its robust earthiness helps it stand up to the spicy flavors of Mexican-style turkey mole enchiladas.

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores. |
