Two Australian Sauvignon Blancs
Lindemans 1996 Bin 95 South Eastern Australia Sauvignon Blanc ($6.49)
Clear gold color. Distinct green-olive aroma leads into a full, almost
unctuous flavor, green olives and green chiles backed by snappy citric
acidity. Nothing fancy here, but a good, approachable rendition of Sauvignon
in the Down Under style. Importer: PWG Vintners USA Inc., Monterey, Calif.
(Sept. 24, 1997)
Rosemount Estate 1996 Hunter Valley (Australia) Sauvignon Blanc ($8.99)
.
Clear straw color. Light citric and faintly grassy scents with a hint of
melon. Flavors consistent with the nose, clean and fresh; fine for washing
down pasta, but rather simple and, frankly, forgettable. Importer: Rosemount
Estates Inc., Sonoma, Calif.
(Sept. 24, 1997)

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores. |
