Bodegas Montecillo 1989 Rioja Reserva ($11.99) I've found Montecillo a remarkably reliable label for good, drinkable Rioja, year in and year out. The 1989, an excellent vintage, is certainly no exception, and the price can't be beat! Clear garnet color. Ripe black-cherry and spicy-earthy oak aromas with pleasant nuances of nutmeg and cinnamon. Full black-fruit flavor over tart, lemon-squirt acidity; soft tannins remain, but they're in the background. Good, clean tart-cherry flavors remain in a long finish. Importer: W. J. Deutsch & Sons Ltd., Armonk, N.Y. (Sept. 8, 1997)
