Chateau de Chainchon 1995 Cotes de Castillon ($9.99) Here's a tasty bargain-priced Bordeaux from the Cotes de Castillon, an outlying district beyond St.-Emilion: Very dark garnet in color. Spicy oak and herbal notes, cedar and pine more evident than fruit. Full black fruit shows up on the palate, though, simple and fresh, over a tartly acidic structure with tannins not at all evident. No ager, but certainly drinking well now. Importer: Willett Distributing Co., Alexandria, Ky. (Sept. 2, 1997)
