Falchini 1995 Titolato Colombaia Chianti dei Colli Senesi ($9.99)
Clear garnet. Black-cherry, spice and caramel aroma notes lead into a fresh, juicy fruit flavor, tart to the point of sourness, but with full, lingering fruit to keep it in balance. Better still, the zingy acidity moderates a bit as the wine opens up in the glass, and intriguing black-olive and fragrant pepper elements emerge. Quite a good budget-level wine; I'm trying to recall if I've had any 1995 Chianti yet that was less than a success. Importer: Martin Scott Wines Ltd., Lake Success, N.Y. (Aug. 17, 1997)
