Francesco 1988 Chianti Classico ($8.99) I spotted this 9-year-old Chianti Classico in a bargain bin, and given that its importer is the same Cleveland-area firm that brings in Fossi Rosso and other Fossi Chiantis, I figured it was worth a whirl. Good decision! It's a Clear, dark ruby with an amber hue. Ripe black-cherry fruit and spicebox aroma notes; simple, juicy fruit and lemon-squirt acidity in good balance on the palate. Plenty of life and fruit left in this one, nothing fancy about it, but a good value, and a fine match with a non-fiery arroz con pollo. Importer: Francis A. Bonanno Inc., Springboro, Ohio. (Aug. 9, 1997)
