Chateau L'Evangile 1989 Pomerol ($70/private sale in 1996)Last tasted on Christmas Eve 1996, I got into our small stash again to check its progress on the occasion of another holiday: My wife's birthday. It's holding up very well, and my notes are quite consistent with those from a year-and-a-half ago: It's a very dark garnet color, almost opaque, still clear at the edge. Delicious black-fruit and herbal flavors, mint and tarragon, with light, pleasant leathery notes. Full, juicy fruit, consistent with the nose, fresh and tart, with soft tannins perceptible but well in the background. Perhaps a little more mature now, but there's no need to hurry to drink the rest. U.S. importer: Classic Wine Imports, Boston. (July 31, 1998) FOOD MATCH: Perfect with grilled, rare T-bones.
E-mail me your tasting notes, and I'll consider adding them to this page.
