Au Bon Climat "9596" Central Coast Pinot Noir ($17.99) A blend of juice from the '95 and '96 vintages, so I'm told, so technically a non-vintage wine artfully sneaked past the regulations with the four-digit number on the label. This is a clear garnet wine, with a pleasant, very characteristic Pinot aroma, candied black-cherry fruit and "tomato-skin." Ripe tart-cherry fruit flavors are consistent with the nose, fresh and ripe; a core of acidity provides firm structure and balance. (June 25, 1997)
