Taltarni 1996 Victoria (Australia) Sauvignon Blanc ($9.99) Very pale greenish-gold. Lovely fresh-hay, green-olive and light citrus scents, none of the controversial "cat-spray;" poised in balance between the poles of Sauvignon Blanc. Ripe, juicy citric fruit flavor, grapefruit and limes; crisp and tart and quite mouth-filling (it's high in alcohol for a Sauvignon Blanc at 13.5%); round and balanced and long. Very fine wine, a great match with grilled salmon. Importer: Clos du Val Wine Co., Ltd., Napa, Calif. (Note: As many of you know, Australia's Taltarni and Napa's Clos du Val are related through winemaker-brothers Dominique and Bernard Portet, respectively.) (June 24, 1997)
