Madfish Bay Madfish Bay 1996 Western Australia Chardonnay ($18.99)
Clear gold color. Intriguing herbaceous aromas, green-pea and asparagus framed by crisp white fruit. Fresh spring peas and sweet-tart apple flavors, quite dry, but intense fruit communicates an impression of sweetness. Full and round, with crisp acidity providing ample structure. Good, clean herbal flavors in the finish. Idiosyncratic style but quite pleasant. U.S. importer: Epic Wines, Aptos, Calif. (May 17, 1999)

FOOD MATCH: Works well with a lemony white veal-shank ossobuco.
