Penfolds 1999 Eden Valley (Australia) Reserve Riesling ($15.99)
Pale straw color, with appetizing lime-juice aromas. Crisp apple flavors, white fruit and tangy lime; bone-dry and fresh in a very long finish. Distinctly different, neither a Germanic nor American Riesling in style, it's all Australian and very appealing indeed. U.S. importer: Southcorp Wines North America, Monterey, Calif. (April 18, 2000)
FOOD MATCH: Taste-tested with a bit of ham, it made a fine match and would be an excellent choice for a holiday meal. In an entirely different supporting role, it was also a great companion with assorted sushi rolls.

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.|
