Riddoch 1995 Coonawarra Shiraz ($18.99)
Dark ruby in color, with good blackberry and spice aromas and a good waft of oaky vanillins, substantially more oak than the back label note's allusion to "hints" of vanilla suggested. Big, fruity and slightly sweet, jammy Shiraz fruit, a bit soft on the acid side. Definitely an approachable and quaffable wine, although for nearly $20, I might expect something more in the way of complexity. U.S. importer: Epic Wines, Aptos, Calif. (April 5, 2000)
FOOD MATCH: Fine with a simple roast turkey breast.
