Chateau Saint Martin de la Garrigues 1997 Bronzinelle Coteaux du Languedoc ($11.99)
Deep garnet. Plummy and peppery aromas, with a marked whiff of garrigues (as in the wine's name), the herbal scent of lavender that fills the hills of Provence in the summer time. Ripe and tart fresh-fruit flavors follow the nose, with fragrant black pepper in a long finish. U.S. importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, Calif. (March 30, 2000)
FOOD MATCH: Seems a bit thin at first with a flavorful dish of leftover pork roast with braised fennel, but opens up and becomes a good match with breathing time in the glass.

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.|
