Quinta da Pellada 1996 Dão Vino Tinto ($7.99)
Dark garnet, with earthy, leathery black-fruit aromas, lent complexity by a pleasant hint of the barnyard. Fresh fruit flavor soft and appealing at first, gains structure on the palate with lemon-squirt acidity in the finish. A rustic country wine, good with food; a very good value. U.S. importer: Unknown - no label information. (March 29, 2000)
FOOD MATCH: Fine with steak fajitas with roasted fresh chile peppers.

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores. |
