30 SECOND WINE ADVISOR |
Marquis de Joliennes 1997 Chateau de Chamirey Mercurey ($21.99)
Clear straw color, with a clean and refreshing scent of ripe cooking apples nuanced by earthy aromatics. Full-bodied, fresh fruit flavor is structured with mineral elements and crisp, tart acidity. Impressive wine, and although it's hardly a bargain-bin item at $20-plus, that's still a steal for a fine White Burgundy of this quality. U.S. importer: Winesellers Ltd., Skokie, Ill. (March 24, 2000)
FOOD MATCH: Demonstrating that there's no need to be fancy with food matching, this fine white went very well with hot fried fish and oysters from the neighborhood parish's Lenten Friday fish fry.

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.|
