Chateau la Roque 1997 Pic Saint Loup Coteaux du Languedoc Blanc ($9.99)
Clear straw color, with tasty aromas of melon and subtle wildflowers. Crisp, citric lemon flavors join in a fresh and tart palate impression that makes this stylish wine a natural with fish. An intriguing blend of Viognier, Rolle (an aromatic Provence grape that's said to be kin to the Italian Vermentino), Marsanne and Grenache Blanc, this one's an exceptionally interesting and value-priced white-wine alternative. U.S. importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, Calif. (March 17, 2000)
FOOD MATCH: Perfect with pompano fillets and diver scallops simply sauteed with butter and lemon.

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.|
