Michele Chiarlo 1995 Barbera d'Asti ($9.99)
Dark garnet. Red fruit backed by spicy oak and a whiff of anise. Fully, tart and tannic, with fresh apple-skin and cherry-berry flavors in the foreground. Enjoyable wine, good now but will stand a little cellar time. U.S. importer: Kobrand Corp., NYC. (March 11, 1998)

FOOD MATCH: Perfect with roast duck accented with garlic and light Asian spice.
