M. Chapoutier 1995 La Bernardine Chateauneuf-du-Pape ($16.99)
Dark ruby color. Fragrant Syrah pepper, subtle leather and black fruit aromas. Full and strong, flavors follow the nose; lemony acidity and heavy tannins provide structure. Needs lots of time, but the fruit is there to make it enjoyable now. U.S. importer: Paterno Imports, Lake Bluff, Ill. (March 10, 1998)

FOOD MATCH: Excellent with roast leg of lamb.
