Foreau 1995 Domaine du Clos Naudin Vouvray Moelleux ($29.99)Clear dark gold. Delicious aromas, ripe and complex; honey, mangoes and an underlying richness that's amazingly reminiscent of milk chocolate. Sweet but not unctuous, full-bodied, earthy and intense on the palate, so creamy and rich that it demonstrates the etymology of moelleux ("marrow-like"). Flavors follow the nose, remaining consistent in a very long finish. Although pushing beyond the budget limit that I'll normally consider for wines except for special holidays and celebrations, this one's great ... and worth it. U.S. importer: Willett Distributing Inc., Alexandria, Ky. (Feb. 26, 1999)
FOOD MATCH: Upon good advice from members of the Wine Lovers' Discussion Group, I paired this wine with two dishes crafted to marry well with the wine's earthy richness: Cappellini (angel hair pasta) tossed with caviar and butter, and buttered roasted beets.
