La Grange de Quatre Sous 1994 Les Serrottes Vin de Pays d'Oc ($12.99)
Flavorful and relatively ageworthy, this Syrah-based Languedoc red is inky dark-garnet in the glass. Black fruit and peppery aromas surround spicy and faintly dank oak, and there's a fragrant shake of black pepper in the full, bright flavor. Black pepper and juicy fruit persist in a long finish. U.S. importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, Calif. (Feb. 23, 2000)
FOOD MATCH: Fine with a pan-grilled, medium-rare T-bone.

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.|
