Chappellet 1997 Old Vine Cuvee Napa Valley Special Select White Wine ($12.99)
According to the Chappellet Website, http://www.chappellet.com, this wine is made from the fruit of Chenin Blanc vines planted on a steep hillside vineyard in the early 1960s. It's one of my favorites from this excellent Napa winery, a full-bodied white that makes a clear break from the ubiquitous Chardonnay. Pale straw in color, it shows ripe apples and honey on the nose and palate; rich, textured and full in flavor, the floral clover-honey aromas suggest sweetness, but the palate impression is full-bodied and dry, with spicy oak more evident in the finish than the flavor. FOOD MATCH: A fine match with a Szechwan stir-fry, ma po to fu.
