A fine red wine for Valentine's Day dinner:
Marqués de Murietta 1989 Ygay Rioja "Reserva Especial" ($19.99)
Dark garnet. Intense black fruit and vanilla aromas with a lovely scent of something surprisingly like toasted coconut. Fresh, juicy flavor, well balanced by lemon-squirt acidity, with flavor nuances that mirror the nose. Tannins perceptible but cloaked by fruit and sweet oak. Fine wine for a valentine. U.S. importer: William Grant & Sons Inc., NYC. (Feb. 14, 1998)
FOOD MATCH: Excellent match with roast chicken.

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores. |
