La Vieille Ferme 1997 Côtes du Luberon ($5.99)Clear, pale straw color, with melon and aromatic minty-piney aromas. Crisp, bright fruit, simple and fresh. Pleasant if not inspiring; certainly a fair value for the low-end price. U.S. importer: Vineyard Brands Inc., Birmingham, Ala. (Jan. 19, 1999) FOOD MATCH: Fine for washing down a bland meal for my wife's cold: Thin-sliced leftover pork loin simmered in broth.
LABEL NOTES: It's interesting to note that this wine's back label contains its legal appellation, Côtes du Luberon, in small print, while much larger type on the colorful front label (pictured) declares the wine a "Rhône Valley" wine and lists its grape varieties -- Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Ugni Blanc.
