Brusco dei Barbi 1996 Toscano ($9.99) Dark ruby in color, this Tuscan red (designated under the new Indicazione Geographica Tipica classification) shows a pleasant scent of black cherries and spices. Its full, tart flavor follows the nose, mouth-filling fruit well backed by lemony acidity with an edge of soft tannins in the background. A well-balanced table wine, it somewhat resembles a Brunello. It's a very good value at this price. FOOD MATCH: Fine with a pepper-crusted, pan-grilled steak.
