Dinstlgut Loiben 1997 Loibner Schütt (Austria) Grüner Veltliner ($8.99) [Best Buy!]Very pale brass color. Delicious citric lemon-lime and green-pea aromas. Bright, fresh fruit, consistent with the nose, over a very tart and steely acidity that persists in a long, clean finish. Not overly complex, but a good example of the character of Grüner Veltliner from the Wachau region (on the north bank of the Danube not far from Vienna) at a price that makes it doubly attractive. (Jan. 4, 1999)
FOOD MATCH: Surprisingly effective in a cross-cultural match with a not-too-fiery vegetarian potato-cauliflower curry.
